FRIP Finishing invest in Bobst 126 BMA creating 5 new Jobs in Hinckley

FRIP Finishing the U.K’s largest print finisher have installed a second Bobst BMA 126 foiler into their Hinckley, Leicestershire premises.
The £500,000 purchase is part of the company’s long term investment strategy and follows on from the recent £250,000 investment of a Sakurai spot UV line into FRIP’s Redditch facility in October.
The machine was supplied and fully reconditioned by Dutch Graphic Trade in Holland.
The Bobst enables FRIP Finishing to double its existing large format (1260mm x 920mm) capacity in Hinckley to over 750,000 sheets per week running 6 days a week on a 24 hour basis. The machine will compliment an existing Bobst 126 BMA and Bobst 102 BMA foilmaster.
FRIP Group Managing director Leslie Gibson commented “over the past year we have seen significant new demand for our largest sheet size and this investment will provide us with greater flexibility in meeting the need of our customers”.
Frip foil first ever John Lewis Annual

Frip Finishing have foil blocked 170,000 sheets (680,000 copies) of the John Lewis Christmas Annual 2012.
In the new 324-page full-colour publication, which is also available to download as an iPad version from iTunes, John Lewis has combined its usual Christmas Edition with a 150-page gift guide rather than producing a series of separate printed magazines.
John Lewis head of brand creative Paul Porrell said: “The Christmas annual is all about producing a beautiful keepsake for customers, so producing it as a print version is absolutely key to our strategy.
“Our customers still see the value of having a beautifully produced annual which they can refer back to again and again in the run-up to Christmas.”
The retailer commissioned a print run of 680,000 paperback versions of the Christmas Annual. Poole-based Southernprint were commissioned to produce the paperback versions
Porrell added: “We see the print versions and tablet working together so customers can browse the annual in the format which suits them best.
The paperback version uses 200gsm Sappi Furioso Matt for the cover and 80gsm Sappi Furioso Matt for the inside pages. The annual is enhanced with foil blocking by Frip Finishing on the cover.
Frip Finishing invest in new Sakurai Maestro Spot UV Machine

Frip finishing the U.K’s largest print finishing company have invested in a new Sakurai Maestro Spot UV machine which has been installed at the groups Redditch factory. The new investment replaces the SPS machine previously in operation at the site.
Leslie Gibson the groups managing Director commented “The machine enhances our capabilities to undertake specialist finishes such as hi-build, latex, re-moist and textured varnishing in Redditch as well as giving us consistency of production with up to 40% improvement in production efficiency. In addition the machine is installed with the latest UV and IR driers from Natgraph which has resulted in a 25% reduction in power consumption”
The machine is the first investment in a series of capital investments, including foil blocking and specialist lamination equipment that totals in excess of 1.5 million through the first 6 months of 2013, the details of which will be announced shortly.

Frip Finishing apprentice awarded Print Futures Award

Frip Finishing are delighted to announce that Lewis Kemp, an apprentice print finisher within the company has been awarded a prestigious Print Futures Award in London’s House of Lords, Westminster.
Lewis convinced a panel of judges of his desire to form a career within the U.K’s printing and Graphic Arts industries.
The award one of only 8 this year was presented to Lewis along with a cheque for £1500 to enable Lewis to further his training.
Leslie Gibson, Managing Director of Frip Finishing commented “We are all delighted with the progress Lewis has made since he joined our apprenticeship scheme. He operates a sophisticated UV Gluer and has shown a real commitment to learning. We intend to broaden his expertise and help him to progress within the company”,

Jaguar E Type and Frip Finishing a classic combination

When SNG Barratt Group set about producing the 50th Anniversary edition of the Jaguar E Type Parts brochure they knew it had to be something special.
With so many speciality finishes available Frip Finishing were able to help. Mark Metcalf, Graphic Designer at SNG Barratt Group commented “Frip made the time to explain their products and services clearly; they provided foil swatches and guidance regarding artwork. Once the artwork was finalised I was invited to sign off hard copy on site which was so quick and efficient. They have a great team.”
Frip Foil Blocked in gold, gloss U.V Varnished and multi-level embossed the cover with a sculpted die to give a smooth glossy finish with lustre and depth.
Mark Metcalf added “I can’t fault Frip, turnaround was quick and our deadline was met, we are really pleased with the finished product and we consistently receive great feedback on this brochure from our customers”
Frip Finishing investing in future workforce

Frip Finishing are pleased to be rolling out an apprenticeship scheme over the next 12 months.
The group which has 6 sites across the U.K have so far taken on 2 apprentices and an additional 4 are planned. Leslie Gibson Managing Director of Frip Finishing commented ” We are in a position where some of our longest standing and most valued workers are reaching retirement age, some have been with us since day one and seen our business grow. Now is the time to train for the future”.
By introducing an apprenticeship scheme of its own and also in partnership with the BPIF Frip Finishing are able to offer trainees key skills, technical certification and recognised NVQ qualifications.

Frip Finishing launch new web site & sample collection

Frip finishing the UK’s leading print finishers have launched a new look website and sample collection to promote their complete range of print finishing services available from the groups 6 U.K sites.
In addition to the new look web site Frip have produced an initial 10 sheet A5 postcard pack to showcase textured foil blocking, hi build gloss u.v varnish, Foil Blocking & multi-level embossing, Spot Gloss U.V Varnish, Glitter varnish, textured foil, embossing / debossing, gloss lamination, soft touch lamination & anti-scuff lamination. The postcards are presented in a foil blocked and embossed brushed aluminium metpol laminated folder from the newest addition to the Frip group of companies MetalPaper ltd.
Shaun Morris, Sales Director at Frip Finishing commented “The initial 10 sheets is just a start, we will be continually adding to the sample collection and updating people as we do so.”
