Our Story
We started out in Scotland in 1970 as Impact Printing Company Ltd supplying Cheque printing equipment and MICR ribbons to the security printing industry. Through our involvement in the security printing industry we were introduced to hot foil stamping through our early innovations in signature strips for credit cards. From these origins we derived our name Foil Ribbon & Impact Printing Group Ltd through which we have developed the FRIP brand known by the industry today.
We gained our expertise in Hot foil stamping and embossing through servicing the luxury packing requirements of the Scottish whisky industry , based near Glasgow we quickly became established as experts within Scotland servicing the needs of the print, publishing and packaging markets. In 1981 we were the first company in Europe to print a commercial hot foil hologram.
1993 | We entered the English market relocating six staff to Hinckley , Leicester and introduced to the trade market the use of Auto-platens for hot foil stamping. In 1999 we purchased the first of our seven Bobst auto-platens , an industry first for our sector. Four of these staff remain with FRIP today. |
1996 | We opened in Stockport, in 2001 we moved to our purpose built 7000sqft site and invested in another Bobst 102Bma Foiler. |

2006 | We acquired Laminating and Varnishing Company ltd ( LVC) , specialising in commercial print Lamination and Varnishing services , based in Hinckley and in Redditch , Worcestershire. |
2008 | We relocated our Hinckley operations into a new 25000sqft site in Hinckley bringing together services of LVC with the hot foil stamping operations , the site from which we operate today. |
2008 | We established Metalpaper Ltd , specialising in on-demand metpol lamination and this is subsequently been relocated to Redditch and brought into FRIP under the Metalpaper brand. |
